Fresh snow, bright sunshine and shadows.

1~24~11

This morning we hit below zero temps...I love how the smoke looks in very cold air.
Took these on my way to work, they don't really work and I don't recommend shooting
while driving.

The way a crow
Shook down on me
The dust of snow
From a hemlock tree

Has given my heart
A change of mood
And saved some part
Of a day I had rued.

So, these views from my front porch are getting old...more snow predicted for Friday!

Took my badly bruised toe out on the ski trails today~so beautiful and
exhilerating, well worth having to limp around work in the evening.

1~12~11 SNOW!!!!

The scene from my front porch...three hours ago and it's still coming down.
Inspirational music by Joey Ryan~he's always singing about the weather.

Some B&W post card scenes

Yes, I live in a pretty little town.

A bit of whimsy in a shop window...ah sea horses and summer.

January 9, 2011

I actually studied Ornithology in college and have been thinking of rediscovering the joy of bird watching. Photographing them is an interesting challenge. You need to be still and patient...two qualities that I don't possess.

Still trying for a "great" cardinal (Cardinalis cardinalis) photo.

Canadian Geese (Branta canadensis) are almost as common as pigeons around here.
They're still pretty awesome despite how much they poop!

Mallards (Anas platyrhynchos) are also in abundance...they are funny!
Don't you just love his rear feathers?

The Hooded Merganser (Lophodytes cucullatus) is a small duck and is the only member of the genus Lophodytes. They are also quite captivating to watch...those feathers on their heads get all flat after a dive for food. This family was not fond of me or my camera.

Todays walk was around Horn pond Woburn MA; inspirational music by Jason Castro.
I believe the fog is caused by the sublimation of the snow which gave a great effect
of softness.

1.1.11 HAPPY NEW YEAR!

The Aftermath...New Years Day stroll through Boston.

In keeping with yesterdays theme, what happens to snow people when they
combine Peppermint Schnapps with unseasonably warm temps.

Is that an expression of regret?

The temperature was close to 60 degrees which made the ice sculptures look
pretty cool. Can you see his spine?
